Larimar
The Larimar Legend. Larimar was first discovered in 1901 on the Caribbean island Dominican Republic, it is the only location on the Whole planet where Larimar appears.
Larimar was first mined in 1974 by a private Company, then, in the late eighties The Co-Operative of miners was formed. The co-operative with the assistance of the President of the Artisans Association challenged the Government about this monopolisation of mining—they won, and now the mine is worked by the co-operative and the association enabling the miners to trade their stone in a free open market.
Karian visit the mines on a regular basis, we buy directly from the miners and the Artisan Association members. Through our trading we are able to ensure that the stones used for our Jewellery have been mined and produced in an Ethical manner, providing employment and security to the Dominican Miners, Artisans and their dependants.
